A few weeks (or maybe months – smh) ago I shared our mudroom renovation along with some tips. To get right to the point – I also promised to share the “buying guide” – the post that outlines all the products I used in our space.
The links are in the picture captions so you can click on those to get the product information. Let’s start from the ground up…
THE TILES
I loved the natural variation in this stone and it worked well with the design of our home. I also wanted a dark floor for this high traffic area and our current backsplash, which you can see from the mudroom (and vice versa) is also a slate mosaic. While a bit more difficult to grout due to the texture, I would use this again.
THE SHOE CABINET
The Hemnes series is my favourite from IKEA. I love to use it in our home as I find it matches the style all our spaces. This is also a super functional unit – we actually have 2.
MIRRORED CABINET
I actually found this cabinet in the bathroom section at IKEA but felt it would work well in our space to give us some extra storage (hidden) and also give us a mirror to check ourselves before we leave the house. Again, the Hemnes series pulled through.
BENCHES
I had purchased this bench before we even moved into this house, and had used it in various locations before we renovated the mudroom. Then I got a second and the rest is history. I honestly have no qualms about getting another too as I think the design and colour are perfect for our home (and many others).
WAINSCOTTING AND TOP MOULDINGS
While all of the baseboards, door frames and crown mouldings are the originals, we used 3.5″ v-joint knotty pine boards to give us the “wainscotting” look. the mouldings used above are also pine. This was all purchased from Reno-Depot (or Lowe’s or Rona for the rest of Canada). We really customized these to create a look similar to the rest of the mouldings.
HOOKS
I had actually purchased different hooks from Wayfair, but when I received them, I realized they were too small and would not work. So I went back on the hunt – looking for something to match the style. I actually found these at Rona but wasn’t necessarily sold on them immediately. But once installed, I’m happy that I made the purchase as they really complement the space.
DOOR HARDWARE
SCHLAGE CENTURY TRIM HANDLE AND ENCODE DEADBOLT – AMAZON
It’s probably no surprise that you see this here. I’m a big fan of Schlage and their smart locks. Their designs also match the look of our house well. The encode also pairs up with our Google Home (along with others).
FLOOR REGISTER
I actually wanted to purchase these for our living room last year, but decided not to (…priorities). But when we installed the slate tile, our old brown register didn’t work anymore. The perfect excuse to upgrade to this cutie. I will put them everywhere eventually.
EXTERIOR LIGHT
Another item you don’t see in the pictures, but is just as important, is this exterior light. We didn’t have one at the back door and without it, coming in through the back could be quite hazardous. Again, this fits the look of our home but is still very simple.
THE HIRED (sort of) HELP
Of course, this project (along with many others) would not be possible without the hard work of two people – my Dad and my Husband. The two hardest working men I know. Love you both … and sorry there’s no link because I’m not sharing these two 😉
