Yesterday I got out of the house. While I was told to rest, I was also told not to be a hermit and to get out there and do things. I had set up a meeting with my boss in the morning, so I decided to drive my daughter downtown to daycare and meet him for coffee at a nearby Starbucks. To fill my day and ensure my daughter could at least spend a couple hours at daycare, I intended to spend some time writing at Starbucks and also planned lunch with a friend.
My office is in the Atwater/St. Henri area of Montreal, which I absolutely love this area. Perhaps not as much this time of the year but still has it’s own unique vibe. Notre-Dame Ave has lots of restaurants, cafés and great antique shops (its also known as “Antique Alley”). And while it was a bit cold yesterday, I decided to venture out of the Starbucks and to the Atwater Market to meet my friend for lunch.
If you ever visit Montreal, you have to stop by this area – very close to downtown, it has a great variety of shops and restaurants. In fact, some of Montreal’s best restaurants are in this area (Tuck Shop, Joe Beef, Grinder) and more of the newer, trendier ones are starting to pop up here as well.
But I absolutely love Atwater Market. The fact that its so close to my office makes it an ideal place to stop and pick up groceries, and unfortunately I haven’t taken advantage of it as much as I should, as many local growers sell their produce, flowers here.
Lunch was also at the Market at Premier Moisson – sandwiches and a good chat with a good friend always makes for a great lunchtime. This spot also has one of my favourite desserts – The Royale. If you haven’t already tried it, you must when you have a chance.
Before I headed home, I also stopped by one of my favourite decor stores, Beige. So many rustic and industrial styled home decor and accessories are in this store that you should check it out if your in the area.
Like every nice day out though, it has to come to and end, and we have to head back to reality, which of course, included another commonplace in Montreal, traffic 🙁
Seems I can’t even avoid it, even during non-peak periods.
If you are not from Montreal, and haven’t been here, you must check this city out out. There are so many great places in and outside of the city to enjoy. Hopefully I can share some of them with you on this blog as well as time goes on.
Thanks for checking in. Stay tuned for more interior design inspiration.
