Normally, I’m writing about Interior Design, or life in general. Today, I thought I would change it up a bit and give you my take on last night’s Academy Awards.
While I recognize by now this is all very old news – it was the first time in a long time that I actually stayed up for the whole event. Actually, the first time in a long time that I’ve spent some significant amount of time watching television at all. So I hunkered down with some snacks, provided by hubby, a glass of wine and my phone to tweet the event (that part was harder than I thought).
I had prepared a bunch of things to talk about – but I thought I would narrow it down to my Top 5 2016 Oscar moments, starting of course, in reverse order.
Much like when Ellen ordered pizza for the crowd of celebrities, this year, Chris Rock helped his daughter out selling the all-American cookies. I’m pretty sure she beat out the competition.
I LOVE the Weeknd (Canadian, of course) and his performance was on point. I thought he was completely robbed by Sam Smith for the Oscar. I would have even taken Lady Gaga to win over Sam Smith. Don’t get me wrong, I like him enough, but the other two artists are serious forces with great songs. And speaking of Lady Gaga, what a performance. The song itself is already so powerful (with Diane Warren) but it was so incredible it moved most of the celebs to tears.
Here’s what I loved about it. He didn’t dodge the issue – he came at it with full force from the moment he arrived on stage. But he made light of the situation in the most respectful way possible. He was very diplomatic – he took shots at members of the black community and white alike (equal opportunity). He made an excellent point about the “Ask Me More” campaign – which I actually agree with. At the end of the day, one part of his speech spoke directly to me, which was all about EQUAL OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL. Which I am a HUGE supporter of – no matter the colour of your skin, gender, sexuality. Definitely a job well done by Mr. Rock.
Of course this is one of my top moments. So many great looking people, all in one place, all ready for the biggest award show of the year. The women were gorgeous and the men not half bad themselves. Who were my favourites of the night?
My favourite was Saoirse Ronan in that emerald Calvin Klein.
I also loved Naomi Watts
Rachel McAdams (GO Canada!!!)
Olivia Munn
Priyanka Chopra
This was Leo’s night 100% and growing up with him as our teen heart throb and seeing what he has become – I’m genuinely so happy for him. And his acceptance speech talked about real issues also. Is this guy ever NOT working?
Well as you can see, those are my top 5 moments. There were so many other great ones, like seeing Jennifer Garner showing up solo and glowing, little Jacob Tremblay and his total cuteness, and all the other beautiful people. There were also some not so great moments…ie Whoppi Goldberg being mistaken for Oprah. And Stacey Dash (wtf!!) I don’t think anyone got that one at the moment. For my first full 7 hours Oscar watching marathon (from Red Carpet to Finish) – it was pretty good. My expectations have been met – and now I have some great movies to watch! I wonder how long it will take for them to get on Netflix.
Thanks for checking out my special Academy Award edition. Looking forward to the next major award show.
