A couple Sunday’s ago, after meeting with a client, I picked up two small cans of paint and announced to my husband that we are painting our bathroom.
3 hours later, our master bathroom was transformed.
Of course that not all there is to the story. First, I had an idea that it could use a little refresh. Second, I was inspired by a fellow blogger, Chris Loves Julia. Before Christmas I narrowed down some colours, and that Saturday I just chose one and we did it.
Now the above is a normal design process, but for something like paint does not have to take that long. Sometimes, I find the longer you wait, the more you look at ideas, the harder it is to make a decision. There are literally thousands of inspiring images of rooms online – different colours, styles, sizes, etc. In the end, I find that what calls to you initially, is what you usually revert to in the end.
So if you can take one thing away from this post – it would be to Just Do It. Go for it, don’t wait! I feel like sometimes we get so caught up in the design process that we never leave it. And our list of projects just gets longer.
This is super true for paint (if it ends up being wrong you can always repaint and if your not sure of the exact colour/tone just get a couple samples and try it on the wall – then choose your favourite and go for it! What matters is that you love it!
And while it’s true for paint, it also applies for other home projects. You’ve probably heard the saying, “the only thing constant is change”. Trends will change, your style will change – at one point you have to pick something and move on – why wait months or years to see what’s changed. What is important is that it works for you (and other people that live – or will live – in your home).
And while projects that are a bigger investment do take slightly more planning, don’t get caught up over the colour scheme, open shelving vs. cabinets, or hardware style. Do what feels right for you; your gut instinct. And if you need some help – hire a designer! Even if you want to DIY, if you are struggling to make some decisions, ask for a design consult only (just make sure you pass along some of the credit if they do help you). They can help you get to the root of what you love and help you move on.
So now I challenge you – to take on that room transformation and #paintitin2020 ! You can share your paint transformations on Instagram with that hashtag – I will be checking and sharing on my feed! I can’t wait to see your projects come to life and help motivate others to do the same!
